To editors and reporters:
You are invited to attend and cover the Pelican Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors 2016 Annual Craft Competition. Each year, the Pelican Chapter, ABC hosts a craft competition for students selected by the school’s instructors to showcase the skills learned at the training center. This year, there are 29 students registered to compete in Baton Rouge.
Categories included in the competition are: Industrial electrical, instrument fitter, millwright, pipefitting, pipe welding, plate welding and welding. The competition is judged by Pelican Chapter members who are experts in the respective fields, and the winner of each category will move on to the ABC National Craft Competition held in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. in March. Competitors are scored based off of a number of tests including a written assessment, a hands-on assessment and a safety exam during the hands-on assignment.
The purpose of both the local and national competitions is to showcase the exceptional talent of the next generation of the skilled craft workforce being trained in Louisiana and across the country.
