Local industrial craft training school to host annual craft competition
To editors and reporters:
You are invited to attend and cover the Pelican Chapter, Associated Builders and Contractors 2015 Annual Craft Competition. Each year, the Pelican Chapter, ABC hosts a craft competition for students selected by the school’s instructors to showcase their skills. This year, there are 29 students registered to compete in Baton Rouge. A separate welding competition will be held at the Southwest Training Center in Westlake, La.
Categories included in the competition are: Industrial electrical, instrument fitter, millwright, pipefitting, pipe welding and plate welding. The competition is judged by Pelican Chapter members who are experts in their respective fields, and the winner of each category will move on to represent the chapter in the ABC National Craft Competition held in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. in March. Competitors are scored based on a number of tests including a written assessment, a hands-on assessment and a safety score during the hands-on assignment.
The purpose of both the local and national competitions is to showcase the exceptional talent of the next generation of the skilled craft workforce being trained in Louisiana and across the country.
