WESTLAKE – The Pelican Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. invites you to cover Build Your Future Day 2019 in Southwest Louisiana, an educational event filled with construction-related demonstrations and exhibits that approximately 400 high school students from Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis parishes will attend to learn about careers in construction.
“Louisiana is the state with the fifth highest demand for craft professionals, so the need to recruit our state’s next generation of craft professionals is great,” said David Helveston, President and CEO of the Pelican Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors. “In order to keep young talent here, it’s our responsibility to educate them to the many long-term, well-paying career opportunities available in the construction industry. Join us for Build Your Future Day and watch local industry leaders show students what a day in the life of a craft professional really looks like.” What: October is Careers in Construction Month, a nationwide campaign that educates the public about the lifelong opportunities available for a craft professional. As part of Careers in Construction Month, the Pelican Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. invited high school students from across Southwest Louisiana to learn from industrial professionals what careers in the construction industry looks like. Students will see and interact with at least 20 exhibits and demonstrations, such as hands-on exposure to a crane simulator, heavy equipment, welding, pipefitting, electrical, instrumentation and millwright.
