WESTLAKE, LA. – The Pelican Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. will host a craft competition for Area III Louisiana FFA high school students this Thursday at the ABC Pelican Southwest Training Center. The students will compete in welding and small engine while ABC Pelican Members participate in a jambalaya cook-off.
“We combine quality competition and Cajun cooking at this annual event, providing high school students across southwest Louisiana opportunities to display their impressive techniques in welding and small engine,” said David Helveston, President and CEO of the Pelican Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors. “While the craft competitors display quality workmanship, technical knowledge and safety practices, industry leaders will show off their culinary skills and discuss careers in construction with these students. This is a craft competition that you do not want to miss!” What: Craft competition for the winners of the District 8, 9, 10 and 11 Louisiana FFA welding and small engine craft competitions. The welding winners of this competition will advance to the state competition on April 2, hosted by the ABC Pelican Baton Rouge Training Center. Who: FFA high school students from Avoyelles, Evangeline, Allen, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis, Acadia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion Parish. Business and community leaders will also attend and participate in the cook-off. When: Thursday, March 14, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
